PJ Harvey's "You Said Something"

to remind yourself of the good parts...

Fun Link

My friend Tim linked to this website that guesses your gender based on your browsing history. Kind of cute and fun. According to this algorithm, I am 100% female. Which is interesting, since for at least a couple (eg, Esquire), it's mainly visited by males. I guess I should be happy my gender is so unanimous, since I've not been described as the most feminine person alive :-)

On a side note, my foot is bleeding nonstop. Curses.

Watchmen

I ordered the book off Amazon, and am pretty excited about it. I'm looking forward to this movie, if not only for its kick-ass trailer.

Plus, GREAT lyrics from the Smashing Pumpkins for the trailer song ("The Beginning is the End is the Beginning"):
Send a heartbeat to
The void that cries through you
Relive the pictures that have come to pass
For now we stand alone
The world is lost and blown
And we are flesh and blood disintegrate
With no more to hate

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Delivered from the blast
The last of a line of lasts
The pale princess of a palace cracked
And now the kingdom comes
Crashing down undone
And I am a master of a nothing place
Of recoil and grace

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain

Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us
No one can separate us
For we are all that is left
The echo bounces off me
The shadow lost beside me
There's no more need to pretend
Cause now I can begin again

Is it bright where you are
Have the people changed
Does it make you happy you're so strange
And in your darkest hour
I hold secrets flame
We can watch the world devoured in it's pain
Strange
Strange
Strange

"Science of Sleep"

Just watched "The Science of Sleep" with my sister. It was a strange movie, and it made me feel strange afterward. Sometimes, I feel as if my life, too, has been a series of miscommunications, misunderstandings - luckily, the result is not so tragic as the main character's. I thank the stars I'm not THAT messed up.

24 has been a tumultuous year for me. I feel, once again, that I am on the edge of a precipice. I am well on the way to becoming someone I'd be proud of. But I often feel vulnerable and unsure as well, and every now and then, I feel all my teenage insecurities tumbling upon me. I wonder what picture I present to others? The few times I've heard myself described, the image has always surprised me. Could I be that un-self aware? How can I - someone who thinks through all her actions - end up so different from her plan? Have I been executing the wrong version of myself all along?

It's very confusing. Perhaps I will disavow this particular post once I reach a more normal hour in my sleep cycle.

ashes to ashes, dust to dust....

I feel like a new beginning, now that some things have finally been resolved. God knows it's been a long time coming.

Hero of the Day: Monserrat Morilles

SANTIAGO (Reuters) - A stripper who danced on the poles of Santiago subway trains to challenge the prudishness of Chilean society was arrested on Thursday during one of her lightning performances.

Monserrat Morilles, 26, surprised subway riders all week stripping to skimpy underwear, but she refused tips.

She said she was protesting a lack of tolerance in Chile, one of Latin America's most conservative societies where the first generation since the Pinochet dictatorship is reaching adulthood.

"This is just a beginning. We are starting an idea here that will grow and be developed further," she told Reuters as police and subway guards surrounded her.

The professional pole dancer worked quickly all week to avoid arrest, getting on at one station, finding a subway car with no children on it and stripping in time to exit at the next station.

Chilean media dubbed her "La Diosa del Metro" or Subway Goddess. She called her performances "happy minutes."

"Chile is still a pretty timid country," said her manager Gustavo Pradenas. "People aren't very extroverted and we want to take aim at that and make Chile a happier country."
